Luciano Kicking off his Tour with Pacha

IBIZA SENSATION LUCIANO SELECTS PACHA TO DEBUT HIS VAGABUNDOS TOUR IN NYC
The event will feature scenery, costumes, and sexy techno

New York, NY – PACHA New York is proud to present the Pacha New York debut of explosive overseas star LUCIANO, Friday, December 10, 2010 on the main floor. The announcement comes on the heels of a wild summer that found the exciting young DJ turning Ibiza on its head, with his inventive beats as well as his venue choices.

Back in May, LUCIANO made an unexpected move that rocked the White Isle: The master of techno turned house (with a Chilean flare), and poster boy for DC10’s Monday morning Bacchanal Circoloco, announced that he was packing up his tricks and taking them across the island to PACHA for the 2010 party season.

The glamorous home of international superstars seemed an appropriate fit for the leftfield DJ, producer, and Cadenza label head and his crew, including rising stars like Reboot, Mirko Loko, and Robert Dietz. But LUCIANO’s purpose and vision were clear: “I aim to spread quality music and vibe to as many people as possible, without compromising myself and the quality of the music we put out with the label,” he told PACHA magazine. “PACHA’s global brand ethos can help achieve this.”

Staying true to his word, after a magical summer at PACHA Ibiza that brought the distinctive Cadenza sound to a whole new audience, LUCIANO and his Vagabundos crew are extending his association with the brand with a one-night-only, unmissable appearance at PACHA New York. And New York can’t wait.

“After seeing LUCIANO and his Vagbundos show in Ibiza this summer, I couldn’t help but dream of bringing him to PACHA New York. I knew our crowd would go wild for his sound,” says Eddie Dean, PACHA New York co-owner. “Now that it’s happening, you can bet we’re pulling out all of the stops to make this a night to remember, for him and our patrons.”

The night will offer more than just great music: It will be a full-fledged experience the likes of which have never been seen inside PACHA’s four walls. A full stage set, chandeliers, trunks, vintage posters, and umbrellas will transport guests back to the ‘30s, when the vagabundos, or vagabonds – think wanderers, tramps, or as LUCIANO has conceived them, slightly ghoulish carnies – first roamed. PACHA’s legendary dancers will join the costumed fun, while a makeup artist transforms any willing patron into a vagabundo. Plus, they’ll be Vagabundos-branded top hats for everyone, and that infamous red velvet curtain, which drops to conclude LUCIANO’s performance – just like in Ibiza.

LUCIANO will be joined by Robert Dietz, whose first Cadenza release “Home Run” came out in July; and Reboot, one of the hottest producers of the year, whose techy tracks “Shunyata” and “Hermano” rocked the summer, and massive house anthem “Enjoy Music” and "Caminando" are still landing on compilations worldwide. The two are known for playing crowd-favorite back-to-back sets.

This event is part of Pacha’s 5-Year Anniversary celebration: Five epic parties over the course of two weeks. Tickets go on sale Friday October 8th at http://pachanyc.com/.

Beautiful outdoor and indoor venues are spread around the resort town of Playa del Carmen, hosting parties day and night, along with a wide selection of the world's finest DJs. 2010’s edition saw over 70 artists from around the globe take to the decks and this year promises to be even bigger, with more day parties and night parties to choose from on any given night, and with the addition of New Year's Eve.

Playa del Carmen is an idyllic, beautiful Mexican resort town, tucked into the coastline of the Mayan peninsula, 45 minutes south of the tourist haven Cancun. White sand beaches, turquoise waters, wonderful food, and lots—and lots—of sunshine await those who make the trip.

Super8 & Tab Debut Artist Album Empire (Anjunabeats)

Super8 & Tab Debut Artist Album Empire
(Anjunabeats)

Every great artist has their first crowning moment; their coming of age. After years of DJ support by everyone from Above & Beyond to Armin van Buuren, that moment is now for Finnish duo Super8 & Tab. Leading the charge of the Scandinavian trance revolution, Finland’s Miika Eloranta & Janne Mansnerus are completing their transition from architects of the most innovative modern trance to true album artists, with the arrival of their debut album Empire – an 11 track journey that will sit as easily on a lazy Sunday afternoon home stereo as it will a laser-shot 3am stadium on a Saturday night.

Firmly established as Anjunabeats’ best selling artists behind Above & Beyond, the humble pair have been building up to this moment ever since joining forces in 2005. As each year has passed, accolades like their IDMA Best Compilation (‘Anjunabeats Worldwide 01’), Beatport #1 chart positions and five star reviews in global dance bibles like Mixmag and DJ Mag have become increasingly regular propositions.

Always placing quality above quantity, their creations have stood out from the crowd time and again. Side-stepping the obvious and the overblown, releases like their definitive "Helsinki Scorchin", the ethereal epic "Suru" and the hypnotic, electro-twisted "Elektra" have all taken their individual paths, but each one bears the classic Super8 & Tab hallmarks; heart-lifting melody, a wide-screen warmth of sound, solid groove and intricate, innovative and unrushed production values.

On Empire their expansive visions are at last given full room to breath. Far from just a collection of dancefloor tracks, Super8 & Tab have crafted an LP of genuine depth and diversity as they head into the realm of powerful song for the first time.

A diversion from the standard cheesy trance vocals so many favor, Jan Burton’s searching, distinctive tones feature on tracks like the bubbling groover "Slow To Learn", the emotional rollercoaster of "Mercy" and the edgy, subtle title track "Empire". A former James Holden collaborator, Julie Thompson graces the blissful, gentle prog-trance of "My Enemy", Alyna is on the swooning St. Etienne-styled electronic-pop of "Perfect Day" and Betsie Larkin contributes a sassy vocal on the upbeat "Good Times".

For fans of Super8 & Tab’s instrumental melodic trance there is still plenty to savour. The strafing Jean Michelle-Jarre-esque melodies of recent single "Black Is The New Yellow" (with fellow Finn Anton Sonin) is Super8 & Tab at their sweeping, soaring best. On "Irufushi" they blend the pacey groove of the Swedish house sound with the stadium sweeping euphoria of climatic trance, while "Bliss" is an unashamed, energised homage to the rushing waves of the ’99 trance era.

The album closes, however, on the appropriately reflective "Free Love" – a beautiful, bittersweet downbeat number with Jan Burton. The perfect finish, it rounds off arguably the most complete trance-influenced artist album since Above & Beyond’s own Tri-State in 2006.
Super8 & Tab Empire is available now on Anjunabeats.

The new music video for title track Super8 & Tab "Empire" featuring Jan Burton:

MUTEK MONTREAL NEWS

ANNOUNCING THE DATES FOR MUTEK 2011

After much consultation and deliberation, we are pleased to announce the dates for MUTEK's 12th edition. With the Formula 1 Grand Prix's dates now officially falling a week later than originally announced, we are able to maintain our current slot on the international festival circuit for our next edition. Mark your calendars - MUTEK returns to Montreal June 1 to 5, 2011!

We truly appreciate the volume of responses and the time taken to share your point of view with us in this matter. All of your comments were carefully weighed and considered in our deliberations, and despite the fact that we will be holding onto our customary dates next year we feel that your input has given us an update of the issues and realities that concern our public.

We are already at work crafting the 12th edition, and are truly excited about the upcoming year and the changes it brings. Housing nearly all of MUTEK's venues, the Quartier des Spectacles district will have advanced in its construction and renovations by the next edition - blocks and buildings that are currently torn and boarded-up will give way to more welcoming and dynamic spaces in which to integrate our presentations and activities during the festival. The Society for Arts and Technology (SAT), one of MUTEK's longest-standing partners, will also have opened its doors to its newly-renovated facilities, including a whole extra floor hosting a restaurant, and a rooftop dome for 360 degree immersive video installations (click here for photos of SAT's renovation projects).

These new spaces open a wealth of possibilities to enrich Montreal's digital culture experience, and we are excited to take part in exploring and embellishing this renewed urban canvas through our 12th edition and beyond. We'll be releasing more information about the festival in the months to come, so be sure to stay tuned!

MUTEK 2011 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Want to take part in MUTEK 2011?

MUTEK is constantly on the lookout for new projects and proposals from artists that explore new directions and strive to push the boundaries of digital and electronic creativity. Over the years the festival has always offered a variety of cultural experiences, combining:
  • live acts
  • multimedia projects
  • audiovisual performances
  • Canadian talent
Additionally, this year we are undertaking the theme of Festival as Lab, to reflect the current positioning of the ICAS network's European members within a multi-year cooperative project codenamed 'Unknown Future' (ICAS is a global network of likeminded festivals dedicated to the advancement of digital arts and sound cultures).

The Festival as Lab theme explores festivals as experimental spaces or laboratories where we can explore and play with future art, music and ideas. We encourage submissions for projects that take the form of an experiment, a prototype or a trial of a new type of art object, technology or form of participation, and that make use of the setting of the festival in an inventive way.

While traditionally MUTEK does not appropriate themes for its activities, the Lab theme will serve as an undercurrent and inspiration for the 2011 year in order to explore the perception and place of the festival on local and international scales, and to further cooperation and exchange within the ICAS network. Please note however that submissions to MUTEK 2011 are not restricted to this theme.

We strongly encourage applicants to accompany their submissions with live recordings of their performances. Please note that as MUTEK is dedicated to presenting live performances, DJ mixes are not considered.

The submission deadline for all MUTEK 2011 proposals is November 19, 2010, though we strongly encourage you to get in touch with us as soon as possible, as by November we are already piecing together our program.

Send your proposals, demos, links and other relevant information by email to submissions@mutek.org, or by regular mail to:

Submissions 2011

473 boul Saint-Joseph Est

Please note that we cannot confirm the receipt of packages. Artists will be contacted if they have been selected to perform at the festival. We would like to thank all candidates in advance for their interest.

MUTEK @ MONTREAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
IMPORTANT UPDATES: SHOW TIME AND FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE

MUTEK is proud to collaborate with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM) to inaugurate a new series conceived by KENT NAGANO, "LES CONCERTS OSM ÉCLATÉS," devoted to exploring new, ear-opening concepts in nontraditional ways and nonconventional venues. The first concert will be presented by Molson M in artistic partnership with MUTEK in a location that holds a prominent place in the history of Montreal, the Molson Coors brewery.

KENT NAGANO, who since his arrival in Montreal has been interested in the city's historical structures, had the idea of matching up the universes of orchestral music and the industrial world. In this spirit, not only will the OSM leave the concert-hall circuit but it will be joining its forces to the talents of practitioners of electronic music. A first-time-ever encounter, this evening of contrasts promises to be memorable.

Presented one night only, the event sees the OSM and KENT NAGANO perform two works whose pairing is original and surprising: "Messagesquisse", a contemporary work for seven cellos by PIERRE BOULEZ, and GUSTAV MAHLER's Symphony No. 1 ("Titan"). THOMAS FEHLMANN will then be accompanied by several OSM musicians, to perform an original variation on Mahler's same Symphony. Closing his performance with a solo set, FEHLMANN will be followed by Berlin's SUBSTANCE & VAINQUEUR, who will present their "Scion Versions live". Locals BAILLAT CARDELL & FILS, long-time MUTEK collaborators, will accompany the electronic portion of the evening.

This event is expected to sell out (really!!), so be sure to get your tickets in advance in order to avoid disappointment!
